OUR TEAM
SILKE WEISS
Silke Weiss, Director Technical Solutions Sales DACH+BLX and Global Systems, started with us in a small technical services team ten years ago following her studies in Economics with a focus on Marketing, Business Information and Mathematics.
As a child she wished to become a forester and now sees the sustainability aspects of insulation as making this childhood dream come true. She is fascinated by the positive impact that technical insulation can have on our future, not just through energy savings and reduced CO2 emissions, but also in other aspects such as the ability of fire protective insulation to save lives in the event of a fire.
Silke loves movement and is a keen runner and cyclist, but above all appreciates the support of her family and her children who make her laugh and help her focus on the small, beautiful things in life.
How did your story at Knauf Insulation begin?
I came across with KI in the year 2012 when I was approached by a head-hunter for the open position as Marketing Manager Communication TI Europe.
At the beginning we have been a small team within TS, being located in Garching close to Munich.
What do you love the most about the insulation?
Coming from the solar energy business I always loved the positive impact on the environment. The positive impact of Technical Insulation is not so obvious in the first step, but looking on the vast amount of energy and CO2 that can be saved by our contribution in proper insulation in industry, I'm really fascinated about our positive impact on saving our planet and contributing to a bright future – even though our material is usually installed in dark and narrow areas.
How do you see the future of insulation business?
Insulation is and will continue to be the key. With growing amount of energy needs due to growing economies machines, engines, pipe lines etc. will continue to be present. To keep control of energy and heat losses, insulation will play the essential role.
Looking at another important area of insulation; the fire protection, especially if we consider the raising requirements on human safety, insulation will become more and more relevant to keep buildings safe.
What is your favourite sport?
Any kind of long-distance athletics is exciting for me. Whether it's Triathlon, Biathlon or also (Half-) Marathon. I just love running and cycling.
What did a Covid19 lockdown bring for you?
During the COVID lockdown I spent more time with my family because there were no business travels. Keeping the business running from home office was challenging, but at the same time it was nice not to lose time on the road, sitting at airports etc. At the same time our communication with the team became more lively due to many video calls. The new ways of interaction were inspiring for me.
Who is your hero?
My family: my children that make me laugh and keep focus also on the little small beautiful things in life and my husband who is supporting me at any time.
